Eating disorders rarely show as the only issue clients are struggling with. Clients describe behaviors such as restriction, binge eating, purging, laxative and diuretic abuse, insulin manipulation, compulsive exercise, chewing and spitting, and so much more. But the behaviors are driven by underlying causes such as anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, body image/self-esteem, self-harm, and other mental health diagnoses and behaviors. We see eating disorders are a spectrum of behaviors driven by a variety of factors including psychological, environmental, and physical elements. We are here to treat the person, not the disease, which is why this section is titled “diagnoses we see.”
